Page Help

Thank you very much for your feedback, its great to see that the help guide is working and a real compliment. Cheers! --Nickb123 (Talk) 02:35, 8 August 2006 (PDT)

Re: Template Thingy

Dude, go ahead. I did the same thing to make mine! --SilvaStorm

Sit Tight

Unfortunately the only thing we can do is hang tight for a SysOp to appear. Its very early in the US so most will be asleep, however I think Jabrowsky comes on early on a Tues to sort out Featured Article of the Week. Don't worry, all the edits will be instantly rolled back when they're here. Just revert if he makes changes to any of our most important pages --Nickb123 (Talk) 00:41, 14 August 2006 (PDT)

Never mind, its an annoying process if you're not SysOp, its much easier just to let them block the user, block the IP, then click rollback on all edits by said user - its instantaneous --Nickb123 (Talk) 00:44, 14 August 2006 (PDT)
No problemo, just need one to show up now... --Nickb123 (Talk) 00:45, 14 August 2006 (PDT)

Spam

  • When ever you see a page that is 100% spam, delete all the info on it and put #REDIRECT [[SPAM]] and it will be deleted as soon as possible.--CaptainInsano 06:33, 30 September 2006 (PDT)

A question about your rewriting

Why are you calling it rewriting when you clearly take much of the stuff from Wikipedia's episodic articles? --Jambalaya 13:30, 15 October 2006 (PDT)

Sorry, after closer examination I realize that I misinterpreted the article's history and thought you were the guilty one :-/ Sorry again! --Jambalaya 09:55, 16 October 2006 (PDT)

Gallery of Listening Stations

In response to your question to nickb123.... You could do, but please make sure you put __NOGALLERY__ at the top so it only displays them as text links and not as thumbnail images, as this is also against fair use. :-)  Plkrtn  talk  contribs  email

Re:Number of edits

Theres no direct way of finding out. The way I learn is by going on "my contributions", setting the views per page to 500, and then counting how many pages of 500s I take up, thus roundabouts telling me how many edits I've done. Which reminds me, I need to update my templates... anyway have fun working it out! --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:14, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

Sig

Pics

When uploading images, please crop the bottom of them if they are from Lost-Media to remove the watermark. Thanks, --Nickb123 (Talk) 02:33, 9 December 2006 (PST)

Tis fine, gives me something to do later. Oh by the way, I see you're a UK user. If you are a fan of The Lost Initiative podcast, let me know cause they wanted more call-in people for next week. I email the producer direct so message me back if you're interested --Nickb123 (Talk) 02:49, 9 December 2006 (PST)
Hey sorry I've been outtie for a couple of days. Erm if you think they are important images then I would just try to incorporate them into the article, otherwise just leave them got rid of. I do keep some galleries that don't violate fair use, but screencaps definitely do violate it. Its not a huge deal but yeah you're right to remove it. --Nickb123 (Talk) 11:37, 10 December 2006 (PST)

Hey just wondering - is there a monitor issue with the pics on Adrift? Cause I thought the layout before was OK? Please lemme know though, as I'd be interested to hear if it looked messed up on your computer --Nickb123 (Talk) 09:19, 11 December 2006 (PST)

No no you're right, my only issue now is that flashback pics look a lil weird in layout, but thats only cause I'm a picture nazi who hates text clips going over the pic thumbs etc etc. I can always move one up or put a new thing in at a later time. Also, I will read your Kate changes if you want, just busy right now --Nickb123 (Talk) 10:38, 11 December 2006 (PST)

Vids

  • I would agree that embedded videos should not open an article. However there is some difference in opinion regarding where in the article videos otherwise belong, and there are currently no manual-of-style guidelines for this for Lostpedia. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T01:56, 12 December 2006 (PST)

page protection

  • I have not dealt with page protection at all, usually it goes through the special page for requests: Lostpedia:Requests for page protection. However if you're still online, drop me a note, and I'll open it up until you're done, then I'll lock it up again. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T00:21, 17 December 2006 (PST)
    • btw, I'll check back in a few hours. Drop me a note when you're done. If you need to do more tomorrow that's fine too. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 00:39, 17 December 2006 (PST)

past tense

  • Go for it. Do'm all =) -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 03:33, 17 December 2006 (PST)
    • On second thought, I'm still a bit unsure about the tense to use in the mini-summaries in the longer season articles. Maybe I'll wait to see how discussion turns out on the proposed MoS. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T04:28, 17 December 2006 (PST)
    • Sorry, I just didn't want to give you carte blanche when the other main sysops haven't weighed in yet. I added it to the proposed MoS, but that article is unofficial and almost like a discussion in itself, not an actual policy, so I'd like to see what happens with that text. But if you want to start making changes in article tense, I don't see anything in any policy that would stop you, and I do happen to personally agree with you, but that is different from officially sanctioning this; it's a gray area. Does that make sense? -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 01:27, 18 December 2006 (PST)

Ok..

I'll try but I'm not good at templates. Its definitely possible to do but you just need to format it like a wikitable. Let's see here, erm:

This user is from the United Kingdom.
300 This user has made over 300 edits on Lostpedia.

This user is an Earthling.
This user really does own a stuffed polar bear.

Oh not bad - just edit the color codes for ya page :-) --Nickb123 (Talk) 03:38, 18 December 2006 (PST)

P.S. reading your userpage, I agree with past tense for characters as its a bio but not for episodes cause they are reviewing events, and present tense is nicer. Just thought I'd mention it before you began to do it - but like I say definitely agree on the former --Nickb123 (Talk) 04:56, 18 December 2006 (PST)
Yeah feel free to pull a little coding --Nickb123 (Talk) 05:33, 18 December 2006 (PST)

RE: Templates

Sure you can; thanks for asking! Sorry it took so long for me to reply, i've been off Lostpedia for a while now. Peace and Namaste, --Gateboy42 13:26, 18 December 2006 (PST)

In general

  • It's a free wiki. Every single move doesn't have to be explicitly approved with a sysop. If there's a community consensus against something you did, the wiki process is such that it'll soon be corrected, so don't worry, in this, or any other case that you may encounter in the future. -- C¯ _Santa_ ¯T 02:47, 19 December 2006 (PST)

Re: Quarry

Here! It has some awesome clues and stuff for the six S3 episodes. --SilvaStorm

No problemo! PS. I think your userpage looks great! --SilvaStorm
And it shows, nice work. --SilvaStorm

Sig Change

Uh, hehe. Sure. Thanks a lot. Mistake :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pewee (talkcontribs) .

Episode names

Hi Lost Soul. Yes, go ahead and update all the episode titles you want :). BTW, I'm using some javascript functions to simplify some of the translations on the longer pages. Let me know if you'd like instructions to install these. The functions are not perfect, and I think they probably only work on Firefox for now, but they can really speed things up.--Dagg 06:04, 22 December 2006 (PST)

Hiya MK. I wrote a script that will automatically convert episode titles to the 'ep' equivalent. I could send you installation instructions and more details for this script if you are interested. Keep in mind that the script is in early development, and will likely only work in the Firefox web browser.--Dagg 11:23, 22 December 2006 (PST)
I wrote a new version of the script that works better on IE6. If you are using Internet Explorer or Firefox, you could try out my script by doing this:

  document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="'
  + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>');

  • After saving that file, you can try editing a file on Lostpedia. You should see the words: "GOSH Console" underneath of the edit window. If you don't see the new commands, try holding down the Control key while refreshing the page. Let me know how it goes.--Dagg 07:10, 27 December 2006 (PST)
That is awesome! I'm glad the script is working out for you :). Regarding installing the script 'site-wide'... I think it is a good idea to keep it voluntary. Anyone can install/uninstall it at any time. I'll create some better documentation for it later, and I'll add a place for people to add bug reports/feature requests, etc.--Dagg 12:47, 28 December 2006 (PST)

Crew pics

Hey LS... We don't *need* images of all crew members, but of course anytime we can get them, it's nice. :) The reason those happen to have "image needed" is because they are located on the DVD bonus features, and I know that they are obtainable (just see the featurette transcript to see who is speaking when). Do you have the ability to screencap? --PandoraX 06:03, 23 December 2006 (PST)

  • Well thanks then, that would be a very good help. Again, it's not a high priority thing by any means, as no one needs to know what the crew look like, but it it's nice if it's not any trouble.

On Disc7 of S2 DVDs, featurette is called Welcome to Oahu, I went and found the time anchors:

  • Larry Fong (01:54)
  • Sarah Caplan (05:58)
  • Jean Higgins (08:56)
  • Jesse Alexander (14:18)
  • Kevin Blank (16:37)
  • Gregg Smrz (22:38)
  • Mary Jo Markey (24:53)

If you have the S2 DVDs, should be easy to cap those guys. There is also Jim Spencer off of the S1 D7 DVD featurette, Secrets from the Hatch. Thanks. --PandoraX 06:34, 23 December 2006 (PST)

Great enthusiasm :) I think there's nothing major pending right now, but you can always check the Lostpedia:Job List for stuff to help with.

Oh, while you are on that DVD, can you get a few caps of some of the interesting FX:

  • (03:40) (Greenscreen effect of stuntmen simulating getting sucked out of airplane)
  • (11:32) (Filming rain chase scene with firehoses and dolly cams)
  • (16:58) (Polar bear puppet)
  • (17:13) (Kevin Blank in polar bear chaps)
  • (18:10) (Horrible looking freeze frame of stuffed polar bear prop being launched)
  • (18:40) (Much nicer CGI alternative of polar bear)
  • (22:58) (How they filmed Turbine Man getting sucked in)
  • (31:15) (JJ's notorious bad-weather-causing shorts)

If you have problems adding pics in, you can also leave them on my talk page and I can help you add them also. Again, low priority stuff only if you have the time. Thanks~! --PandoraX 06:54, 23 December 2006 (PST)

  • Yup, same featurette.. thanks for the help! Don't worry if you can't get all of them, it's not hugely important, but some of them are fun to have for illustrating things like the polar bear article trivia. --PandoraX 07:00, 23 December 2006 (PST)
  • Thanks a lot, these are perfect! I'll sort through them in a little while, right now I am writing another featurette transcript. I think I'll add some to the transcript page and some to various pages like Rain and polar bear. They look great, appreciate your help. I'll let you know if I see any more stuff to cap. If you're looking for stuff to do now, it's tedious, but some of the earlier episode synopses have no wikification links at all, and someone needs to put in at least a few. Thanks again. --PandoraX 08:05, 23 December 2006 (PST)
Hello again K :) If I could bother you just one more time for a favor, two more requests for caps? S1 DVD also, this time of The Genesis of Lost featurette:
  • (07:21) Jeff Pinkner
  • (07:40) Original "LOST" script for Pilot screencap

Many thanks! Happy holidays. --PandoraX 11:43, 23 December 2006 (PST)

  • Caps look great. On Station Explorers, style wise, I like the new table, easier on the eyes than before. Not sure if there were other major changes made from previous, aside from updates. One thing I would change (and this is not on you, because I think this carried over from the old table) is to take out "Possibly aware of" as status. Anytime we say "possibly", we are speculating and making inferences, and LP is for supportable facts, so it's useless to have that category. I'd probably change those to "Never visited", "Unknown", or something like that. Again, not your responsibility, and I'll do it later if you don't get to it. Otherwise not sure what was changed with the table aside from appearance, looks good to me. --PandoraX 12:01, 23 December 2006 (PST)
  • Thanks for pointing that out. I was mucking around a bit with some of the categories and templates, and it appears I may have messed that up a little; I just reverted my edits to the template (were never a big deal), hopefully that should fix it. --PandoraX 04:26, 26 December 2006 (PST)

Nav Templates

The way Dagg (who made that style of template) and I had previously done it was, in the case of overlapping categories (The Numbers for example, could be both in the numbers template and themes), we put the nav bar in that is most specific... kind of a judgement call. However, I don't think either of us started adding them to the FB chars pages. I noticed also the double bars and thought it looked a little weird for the crossover ones to get two. However in that case, it's hard to make that choice, as it's not clear which ones are the better fit, so I didn't say anything. It might be best to leave the multiple bars after all, in those cases. --PandoraX 02:14, 28 December 2006 (PST)

Re: Locations Template

Thanks, that would be nice. Obi-Dan Kenobi 09:06, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Yep, except for the stations and the flashback locations - they're going to have their own template. Obi-Dan Kenobi 09:10, 30 December 2006 (PST)
