This is my user page. Maybe someday I'll put something here.

I removed your Unanswered Question without an explanation (or with a confusing one)

I spend a lot of time digging through the Unanswered Questions sections of a lot of pages, and I usually end up removing quite a few of them. I don't always leave explanations. Often times this is because the questions have either been answered, have what I think are obvious answers or because the question is leading or irrelevant. If you have a beef with a UQ that I removed, please feel free to bring it up on my talk page. Most of my removals are uncontroversial, but I do make mistakes from time to time if there's something I've forgotten or remembered inaccurately. I'll be glad to explain why I removed the question and will fully admit it if I've made a mistake that you point out. For a good guide to writing UQs, check out this.

Opinion Piece: Spoilers

Spoilers suck. They really do. I had the endings for seasons 3 and 4 ruined for me by spoilers (and considering I only started watching after season 2, that's a pretty bad track record). Season 3 was due to my own stupidity for reading the spoiler pages, and season 4 was by some ass of a vandal who posted spoilers all over LP. So believe me when I say that I hate spoilers and am against them.

That being said, what are spoilers. In my opinion spoilers are the things that the creators of Lost don't want us to know until they're ready to tell us. So, yeah: "it's a flashforward" and "Locke is in the coffin" are complete spoilers until after the episodes have aired. On the other hand, things like episode titles, plot synopses and casting information are released by the show creators. These are things that they're coming out and saying "You want some information? Here you go." It's information they're perfectly willing to share with us, and as such are not spoilers.

Now I understand the argument that these things can ruin some surprises in the show. Episode titles like "What Kate Did" or even "The Other 48 Days" give away some of the plot (although on the other hand, "Eggtown, "The Glass Ballerina" and "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues"...). Casting information like Libby showing up in "Meet Kevin Johnson" or ******** *********** showing up as *** ***** in episode * of season 5 gives away plot information as well. And plot summaries (or promos)... well, obviously. But you know what? These things are easy to avoid. And if we don't avoid them, we can trust that at least they won't ruin the episodes because they're being published by the very people who's job it is to ensure that we like the episode.

To be fair, though, there are people who wish to avoid this information. So I understand the argument for mandating that any information about upcoming episodes shouldn't be posted to the general wiki. But, let's be frank. There are (were) pages on Lostpedia that you weren't visiting unless you actually wanted this information. If you don't want to find out about upcoming episodes, don't visit the page for that episode until after its airdate. If you don't want casting information, same thing. And in particular, stay the hell away from the press releases and the /Spoilers pages. As long as information was relegated to these pages, it wasn't hurting anyone. That includes the show creators, because any spoilers on there were (or at least should have been) officially released information.

But now those pages have been eliminated for no real reason. There was a long debate here that ended with a consensus that official information was benign, but the decision to eliminate the pages was still made.

But whatever. The point I've been working towards is this: for anyone who shares my frustration with the now non-existence of the /Spoilers pages, two wonderful wikis have popped up. This one [1] has a fair bit of non-official information, but it is poorly-cited. On the other hand, this one [2] is essentially a revamp of the old LP spoiler pages, right down to the formatting. Also, for anyone not aware, the press releases for new episodes (when they start appearing) will be found here [3].
