Abaddon identity

Was part of DHARMA

  • Assuming that Abaddon is actually not a lawyer for Oceanic (based on Hurley's suspicions and Abaddon not being able to produce a business card or ID), he could be working for the Dharma Initiative.
    • This makes sense with the episode Enter 77. When Locke entered 77 on the computer after beating the chess game, he alerted Dharma that the hostiles had taken over. They had no idea, and had thus continued to fund and give pallet drops to Ben because they think that he still represents Dharma. This is why they still have funding. Now that Dharma knows that the hostiles have taken over and that Ben has been playing them, they are coming to stop and punish him.
    • I agree that Abaddon is probably part of Dharma, and perhaps the leader. He has utilized Widmore to help him take back the island, with the help of the crew. I think he has known I think there is some type of relationship between him and Richard. Both are opposing forces. Abaddon is trying to utilize the power of the Island and Jacob, and Richard is protecting it.
    • Abaddon tells Locke that he once went on a walkabout and it changed his life...perhaps he's referring to his experiences on the island?

Is from the Black Rock

  • Was on the Black Rock along with Alpert and their crash led them to form a society on the island, over time learning the unique nature of the island. When Dharma set-up on the island, Alpert was part of the hostiles who wanted the Dharma infiltration removed. Abaddon, however, allied himself with Widmore (who was in control of the island). Since Widmore was cut off from the island, Abaddon has done his bidding in an effort to return to the island and reclaim it. Abaddon shares the same standing as Alpert and as such both are searching for a person that could lead the island - Alpert for safety and security & Abaddon for Widmore. Both see potential in Locke but Alpert is dismayed when he fails the "knife test", Abaddon clearly wants Locke to develop this side of his nature, in the hope that Locke's inability to calm the volatile side of his nature, will create a window of opportunity for Widmore to take the island back

The Economist

  • Abaddon is the one who Elsa refers to as the Economist.
    • He was using Elsa in order to ambush Sayid.
    • Ben was using Sayid to ambush the economist.
    • Ben is trying to prevent Abaddon from finding the Island, so he can protect the island from the mainland.
      • Ben hired Sayid in order to eliminate Abaddon's alliances, i.e. Elsa and Mr. Avellino.

"The Dark Man"

  • Darlton has stated the Steven King's "The Stand" is a huge influence on Lost. Abaddon may be their version of Randall Flagg, "the dark man", the book's antagonist.

Abaddon is Walt

   * Where does Abaddon come from?

Abaddon borned as Walt son of Micheal.

  • Why does he pick Daniel, Charlotte, Miles, and Frank for the job? ("Confirmed Dead")

He wanted Daniel to be on the Island for almost sure, so he can build he's time machine on the Island too. Which with later they can "move the island".

   * Why does he insist to Naomi that there were no survivors of Flight 815? ("Confirmed Dead")

Because he want to repair the time lines, and on this were no survivors, but at the end when the plane Oceanic 815 will crash again on the Island there will be survivors and the rescue will come.

   * What was the "miracle" that happened to him? ("Cabin Fever")

That he's half dead half alive. We have seen Walt in the jungle whispering to Shannon.

   * Why did he visit Locke and tell him to go on a walkabout? ("Cabin Fever")

Because he want's him be on the Island.

   * Who is Abaddon working for?

Abaddon's not working for anyone, he wants to save the people on the Island.

Corporate Recruiter

Darlton stated that Abaddon is sort of a "corporate recruiter" but then said their definition of "corporate recruiter is much different than someone else's." In "The Economist",when Elsa asks what Sayid does for a living, he tells her he is "a headhunter - a corporate recruiter." If this is true, Abaddon may be carrying out the same role as Sayid, but under another's tutelage.

Abaddon's loyalty

  • Matthew is Widmore's Alpert. He is in charge of getting the island back under Widmore/Dharma's control. We see that the Kahana crew get their instructions from Dharma books, and the previous relationship, as well as Widmore's accusation that Ben stole the island from him (i.e. the Purge) are consistent with this story.
    • The captain of the freighter told Desmond and Sayid that the owner of the freighter was Charles Widmore (then implied he knew that Desmond knew Widmore). Naomi and her team, which was put together by Abaddon was on the freighter, this makes Abaddon being some part of Widmore Industries a logical conclusion.
  • Abaddon is a third party-- completely seperate from Widmore and Ben. He placed Naomi and the science team on the freighter as spies/double agents.
  • Matthew Abaddon works for Charles Widmore. Charles Widmore is one of "the bad guys."
  • Abaddon is working for Widmore to try and find the island.
  • Abaddon told Locke about the Walkabout in order to plant the seeds in his head, knowing that Locke would go and be refused to partake in it, thus causing him to have to come home on flight 815.
  • Abaddon told Locke about the Walkabout in order to plant the seeds in his head, believing that Locke would be accepted and miss the flight flight 815.
    • Abaddon learned of The Others' interest in Locke or his connection to the Island and set things in motion for the Island to seize Locke as a sort of human tracking device.
      • Abaddon tells Naomi that there were no survivors of Oceanic 815 because other than Locke, they are superfluous to saving the island, and therefore their lives are expendable.
      • Naomi thinks that the Kahana group are “the wrong people for a mission like this” and why Abaddon tells her “every member of this team was selected for a specific purpose.”

Abaddon as Locke's guide

They meaning of "They"

  • Abaddon asks Hurley "Are they still alive?"
    • When he asks "Are they still alive?", he could be referring to (in order of likelihood based on his direct interests): 1) his team on the island (2) Ben & the Others (3) Desmond & Penny (4) the other Losties who did not make it off the island. He could also be referring to surviving members of the Dharma Initiative. If working for Dharma, he may be there to enlist Hurley (and other members of the Oceanic 6) in helping Dharma reclaim the island.
  • "They" are Miles, Daniel, Frank and Charlotte. He sent a team which never returned, and now wants to know if they are alive.
  • This would explain why it is Hurley, who is asked whether "they" survived, by both Abaddon and Jack, as he is, thus far, the only member of the Oceanic 6 who originally went with Locke, and would have therefore been around to see whatever may or may not have killed "them". Jack therefore does not know himself, which implies that the other members of the Oceanic 6 would not know either.
  • "They" are the other passengers of Flight 815.

Abaddon, Naomi and the Survivors

Possibilities:

  • He was instructed to tell Naomi there were no Survivors.
  • He is reassuring Naomi that there will be no one to interfere with her mission.
  • He and Naomi know there may be Survivors; he is reminding her of the official version of the story.
  • He is reminding Naomi that her mission, before she leaves the Island, is to ensure that there are no Survivors.

Connection to Lance Reddick's Fringe Character?

I also posted this on Matthew Abaddon's discussion page - I'm not sure which place this should go.

So, I know this one's a long-shot, seeing as the shows are on two different networks (FOX and ABC) - but bear with me for a minute. If any of you have seen J.J. Abrams' new show Fringe, you'll notice many similarities to Lost. Both start out on a plane as a disaster happens. Both deal with similar subject manner, in the form of fringe or pseudo-science. In the pilot episode, they make reference to someone waking up from a coma reciting "numbers."

Anyway, Lance Reddick plays one of the main characters on the show - and in this case is a mysterious high-ranking agent of sorts who seems to have information about said number-reciter as well as other strange phenomena (such as a plane flying over Sri Lanka possibly connected to the Tsunami).

I have a feeling that J.J. Abrams is purposefully having Reddick play the same character, at the very least as a reference to Lost - similar to how Stephen King's repetitious use of Randall Flagg. Maybe it's even possible that the plots will tie-over and connect. Not in any official obvious manner (as the cross-network thing would prevent that) but maybe in such a way where us obsessive fans will be able to find clues / deduce plot connections between the two.

Any thoughts?
