Artificial or manmade formations

The blast door map shows six stations (with a seventh scratched out), all "pointing" to a center on the island, represented on the map by a large question mark. Four of the bunkers have both graphics and text identifiers, apparently their respective names and logos; the two remaining have no titles or icons. Clockwise from bottom:

  1. "THE SWAN" (bird) (Notice what appears to be a detached section of the bunker on the left, suggesting there is a part of the Swan that is blocked off. Marked "3 of 6.")
  2. "THE FLAME" (fire)
  3. "THE STAFF" (caduceus)
  4. Scratched out (labeled "C1?") (could be The Door, The Orchid, The Tempest or an unseen station)
  5. "THE ARROW" (arrow)
  6. Unknown (labeled "C3?") (could be The Door, The Orchid, The Tempest or an unseen station)
  7. Unknown (labeled "C4?") (could be The Door, The Orchid, The Tempest or an unseen station)
  8. ? is the Pearl

There are also several straight lines, apparently connecting the various stations to one another via different routes. Five of the stations are connected to the center of the map by straight lines. The station at the three o'clock position and the scratched-out station are not connected to the center of the map by the straight lines. The overall shape created by the lines is that of a letter-size envelope with the flap open and a side missing.

  • Swan is linked to three places (Flame, "?" and "C3")
  • Flame is linked to four places (Staff, Arrow, "?" and Swan)
  • Staff is linked to three places (Arrow, "?" and Flame)
  • Arrow is linked to three places (Pearl, Flame, and Staff)
  • "C3?" is linked to two places (Swan and "?")
  • "?" is linked to five places (Swan, Flame, Staff, Arrow and "C3?")

Island Geography

Items on the Blast Door Map do not match the observed geography of the Island.

  • The location of the Flame next to the Swan is not consistent with the long journey taken to reach the Flame by the survivors.
  • The location of the Staff is not consistant with observed travel times from the beach camp of no more than a few hours.
  • The stations are in no way equidistantly positioned as the map would suggest.

Topography and natural landmarks

In addition to the stations, the map also contains several wavy and straight lines.

The parallel wavy lines would appear to mark the location of rivers or streams. These lines appear only on the lower half of the map. It is unclear if this means there are no rivers on the "far" side of the island or if they are simply uncharted by the mapmaker.

The "concentric" wavy lines would appear to be topographic conventions used to depict variations in elevations. These lines appear primarily between one and five o'clock on the map. It is unclear if this means there are no significant elevation changes on the that side of the island or if the elevation changes are simply uncharted by the mapmaker.
